"Superhuman.  What do you think when you hear that word? Do you perhaps think about stretchy-pant clad masked vigilantes seeking out crime in the dark of the night? Do these ones have powers beyond that of the average man, or perhaps in some way otherwise specified as extraordinary?

"These men don't exist. Man though, is a survivor. Man came close to self destructing throughout all of his history, but somehow survived each time. Man survived earthquakes, epic weather systems, pandemic and other global catastrophes. There have been complete ecological and economical failures of grandiose proportions. Man as a whole survived through both natural and self-caused disasters.

"Close to one century ago, humankind around the world was notified that the Sun, our light and energy source was beginning to collapse. The questions raised were of phenomenal importance: 'Would the Sun collapse in on itself causing a black hole?', 'Would the Sun supernova first burning everything in it's way?', 'How would humankind survive, when would it happen, and what would happen after?'

"During the last century, humans around the world sought after an answer that would put to rest all of these questions. After none were found, many sought after a way out, away from Earth. It seemed all hope was lost. A final countdown was made, and humankind geared itself for it's extinction.

"Within a month of the clock striking zero across the board (00y00m00d00h00m00s), hope was rekindled. A synthesized metal aerosolized successfully blocked out all effects on harmful supernova radiation and reversed the existence of lab-created black holes. This effectively allowed humans to escape the oncoming wrath of the collapse of the Sun.

"Today, one week before this epic eventuality, we have not just a small ray of hope, we have daylight! People of the world, we release today into the atmosphere Vutonium-47, so named for the 1947 creation of the atomic doomsday clock. We have little time, and this is our last stand, as we stand "seven minutes to midnight" so-to-speak. Let us all have absolute assurance that the Human race will survive!"
Thus spoke the global president elect on all forms of communication. Written out, it seemed as if it were some cheesy intro to an airport terminal paperback. I knew in my heart that we were all boned, whether or not 'humankind' survived. Doomed if you do, doomed if you don't. That was the day everything smelled like a new car.
